Monsters of NeoExodus: Necrostruct (PFRPG)

Monsters of NeoExodus: Necrostruct (PFRPG)Publisher: LPJ Design

A necrostruct is a once-living and artificially created creature animated by spiritual or supernatural forces. Necrostructs are created by encasing a recently dead body within a suit of specially prepared armor. The corpse is then infused with negative energy, creating a unique form of undead creature which is permanently trapped inside the ornate armored shell which it must use to fight and move. The elaborate process of creating a necrostruct binds this undead force to the specially prepared armor, resulting in a single, unified being that is both undead and construct.  The first necrostructs are said to have been created many centuries ago by a powerful but crazed mystic theurge with an odd, twisted sense of self loathing. Many sages believe that it is because of this twisted self loathing that all necrostructs possess a powerful urge to seek out and destroy magic when they are created.

[PFRPG] Anachronistic Adventurers: The Enforcer

[PFRPG] Anachronistic Adventurers: The EnforcerPublisher: Super Genius Games

"That I have taken moments to write down a part of what occurred as that blow fell does not signify that I remained inactive for any such length of time. I think I must have sensed something of what was coming, for I realize now that I was crouched as for a spring as I saw the blow aimed at her beautiful, upturned, pleading face, and ere the hand descended I was halfway across the hall. "

-Edgar Rice Burroughs, A Princess of Mars

The enforcer is the epitome of the modern fighting combatant, from professional soldier to citizen militia, mercenary-of-fortune to experienced insurgent, and from ultimate martial-arts television contestant to mob button man and even police SWAT. The enforcer is trained and skilled at using force to take control of dangerous situations, remain calm under fire, follow a set of rules of engagement, and within those rules adapt and overcome unforeseen obstacles as necessary to achieve victory. The enforcer represents the infantryman, marine, and special forces of the era of modern firearms, and is as adept with tools of personal combat as most modern folk are with a television remote. The weapons used by such warriors vary, depending on the era an enforcer comes from, and they might be as primitive as single-action revolvers and bolt-action rifles, or as complex as assault rifles with laser targeting sights.

And sometimes they end up in fantasy lands, where they are attacked by orcs and need to defend themselves with spears.

The "modern" combatant being stuck in a more primitive, fantasy-themed world is a common trope in a great deal of adventure fiction, especially the "planetary romances" more common in the early part of the 20th century than today, but still very popular with a wide range of gamers (and game writers). The enforcer is the first in a line of Anachronistic Adventurers products designed to provide rules for running modern (or near-modern) heroes in a typical fantasy roleplaying game setting. While it's impossible to address every possible issue that might arise for such characters (does a wish spell restore the function of a cell phone?), each product in the line will look at one area where the modern and fantasy realms are most likely to overlap and give guidance for running heroic anachronisms. We also discuss the idea of Progress Levels (PL), a simple way to determine the general technological advancement of a campaign (and outlined in more detail at the end of this product).

People's Revolution: Villains of WWII (BASH)

People's Revolution: Villains of WWII (BASH)Publisher: Vigilance Press

The Soviet super-team, the People's Revolution, was formed by the Kremlin in 1941 in response to demands from the Red Army for an organized force to counter the Nazi's super soldier forces. Although the British and American super soldiers receive the most attention and glory (at least in Western histories), the WW2 era People's Revolution team fought arguably the hardest, bloodiest and most prolonged struggle of any metahuman force in recorded history.

They were Red Hammer, Night Witch, Ice Fang, Trans-Siberian Express, Red Legionnaire, Battle Czar, Sovi-Ape, Revolutionary Fire and Kasatka.

This is a character folio for BASH detailing the villains listed above.

Note: In the main chronology of the first four products in this series, the Soviet Union had no metahumans.

This product can be used as an alternate reality book for those who would rather the Soviets have metahumans, or for a Soviet team set during the Cold War.

Old School Podcast: Rippers at RavenCon Actual Play

Old School Podcast: Rippers at RavenCon Actual PlayPublisher: Troll in the Corner

If there was one game that I knew I wanted to get in at RavenCon, it had to be a game run by Paul Charran. I met Paul at one of his games last year and I learned from him one of the major elements missing from my own games at the time, bringing energy to the table. Paul is filled with laughter, movie quotes, and quips, but manages to not let those asides tear him away from great storytelling and role play opportunities at the same time. He makes the table excited to play, and I was stoked that this year he allowed me to record one of his sessions to share with the Troll ITC community.

Paul runs Savage Worlds primarily (perhaps exclusively at this point, I don't know him well enough to say) and for this game we took on the role of a team of monster hunters in the late 1800′s Rippers setting by Pinnacle Entertainment Group.

Our group, as you'll hear in the audio, was hired to investigate the brutal murder of an English gentleman, under the pretense that it seemed more mundane than supernatural. Of course we players knew something else was afoot. Our adventures led us to the scene of the crime and a nearby asylum, where strange medical practices were performed on known serial killers, a likely lead in our sort of work.

Chronicles of Arax - Dwarven Stoneguard

Chronicles of Arax - Dwarven StoneguardPublisher: Crystal Star Games

The Dwarven Stoneguard is a new Hero for you to use in the Chronicles of Arax solo adventure game.

The Dwarven Stoneguard were once the pride of the dwarven strongholds. They were elite warriors, charged with defending the strongholds from the many enemies of the dwarven people: the orc tribes of the north, the goblins from beneath the ground, and the various monsters and savage beasts that roamed the wilderness.

For the most part, they were highly successful. On only one occasion did the fortresses of the dwarf people become compromised, and that was mainly due the corrupting and poisonous magic of the goblins causing illness in many of the Stoneguard. But even then, they were able to overcome this and eject the goblins from their home.

All of this changed at the start of the Age of Darkness and Nightmares. The orc hordes attacked on masse, the goblins found new and powerful magics, and demons and undead monstrosities added to the dwarven problems. Slowly, one by one, the dwarven fortresses began to fall.

The Stoneguard, being the first line of defence for the dwarven people, were blamed for not defending their homes properly. They became maligned amongst their own people even though, in the face of overwhelming odds, they never once faltered or fled, laying down their lives for their homes.

Today, the Stoneguard continue to defend the last two dwarven fortresses left standing from their enemies. They do so with skill, bravery and resolution. Some Stoneguard have left their ancestral homes, traveling out into the wider world in the hopes of finding some sort of aid for the dwarfs. What they have found has left them in despair, yet they continue to fight, never giving up on the hope that, one day, the will push the darkness back and a new age of light will begin.

Campaign Overlay: Fantasy Firearms

Campaign Overlay: Fantasy FirearmsPublisher: Skortched Urf' Studios

Introducing firearms into a fantasy setting requires more than just gunpowder used by Orcs and Elves. Draksmoke adds that fantasy element to the simple discovery that charcoal, sulfur and saltpeter go BOOM when you mix and ignite them.

Draksmoke is fantasy gunpowder. Made from the burning liquid dragons use to make their deadly flames, Draksmoke is a dragon's breath weapon in powdered form. Few alchemists know the secret to producing true Draksmoke, and they guard it with their lives. Rich and powerful guilds have risen up around those that know the secrets: The Black Brotherhood, the Armigers and the Monopolist Consortium all trade in mundane gunpowder, powerful Draksmoke and newly forged firearms; each pursuing their own ends.

To make use of such a powerful substance, new weapons have been hammered out on the forges of the world. Only the finest steel tempered in the blood of dragons can withstand the power expended by Draksmoke. Naturally, new magicks have been conceived to protect warriors, kings, and knaves alike.

* Included in this Sourcebook: Four new player species
* 10 new monsters
* 11 new spells
* 2 new Clerical Domains
* 30 new feats
* Dozens of new weapons (both mundane and magical)
* and more!

Everything you need to bring real firepower to your fantasy campaign!

Excerpt from the Introduction...

Few inventions have shaped our world as profoundly as the gun. From the "shot heard round the world" to the assassination of JFK and thousands of other examples. Even taking a break from the "reality" of the gun we find them a staple of entertainment in movies, fiction, television and comics. Many modern and sci-fi role playing games pad out their pages (or even entire sourcebooks!) with weapon descriptions for players to choose from.
But where is the fun in just adding archaic guns to a typical fantasy setting? This is a fantasy setting; so there needs to be more to it than simple gunpowder used by Orcs and Elves. Thus Draksmoke was invented to add that fantasy element to the discovery that charcoal, sulfur and saltpeter mixed together goes BOOM when you ignite it.

Draksmoke is fantasy gunpowder. Made from the burning liquid dragons use to make their deadly flames, Draksmoke is a dragons breath weapon in powdered form. Only a few alchemists know the secret to producing true Draksmoke; and they guard it with their lives. Rich and powerful guilds have risen up around those that know the secrets. The Black Brotherhood, the Armigers and the Monopolist Consortium all trade in gunpowder, Draksmoke and arms; each pursuing their own ends.

The alchemical knowledge of Draksmoke is the fantasy equivalent of having a modern day functioning nuclear program. Those without such knowledge seek it at great expense and risk, while those that possess it will do anything to keep the information a closely guarded secret.

To make use of such a powerful substance, new weapons have been hammered out on the forges of the world. Only the finest steel tempered in the blood of dragons can withstand the power expended by Draksmoke. Armor must be fashioned from the same blood-infused forges in order to turn aside blows delivered by Draksmoke weapons. Mundane armor is no match for even Lesser Draksmoke, made from the flame glands of fearsome elemental beings such as Salamanders and the gigantic Remhorhazas; a weaker alternative some try to pass off as true Draksmoke. Naturally, new magics have been conceived to protect warriors, kings and knaves alike.

The several "thinking races" have all taken up these new arms with varying degrees of acceptance. Orc and Goblin kind have embraced the new arms with reckless lust. The dwarves have seen the pragmatism of such arms. Humans, Halflings, Gnomes, and every shade of Elf have taken up the gun after some fashion. Other races have as well; some by choice and others through subjugation.
Using the material in this book will allow you to integrate fantasy firearms into your game either gradually or as an existing and on-going set-piece. Background material about the various guilds involved in the trade is included, and can easily be dropped into any campaign world with little or no changes required.

Several new species are available for players, from the massive Colossi and their human-sized cousins, the Smokebelcher Men, to the diminutive Gunfire Goblins and the twisted nightmare that are the Sulfursouls. While all the thinking races have been affected by the invention of Draksmoke, these new races owe their very existence to the knowledge.

Add in some new monsters, feats, spells, gods and clerical domains, along with dozens of new firearms (both mundane and magical) and you have everything needed to bring real firepower to your campaign!
