The village of Millet's Crossing is a small and unassuming place. There is little of interest to the wandering sword-for-hire except for a nice inn and a general store. But the Troll's Trove provides a welcome bit of rest and relaxation to your band of road-weary adventurers. Just as soon as you have settled in, however, your host offers you a rather odd business proposition. It seems that the Troll's Trove has rats in it's cellar and these rats are stealing things all over town. What is really odd is that they are leaving behind small jade rat statues. A nice reward awaits those that can clear out the infestation and put a stop to the thefts. It appears to be a simple task, but one must be careful; even rats have gods.

This book contains details for the village of Millet's Crossing and the Dungeon of the Rat which lies right beneath the calm, rural community. The Dungeon of the Rat is suited for a party of four to six first-level characters. A mix of character types is recommended including at least one wizard and one rogue.

The Dungeon of the Rat is designed for use with the Tunnels and Trolls™ game system. You will need a copy of the T&T rules to play this game.

Magical weapons are a necessity of most roleplaying games, yet the core rulebook presents so few of them. Magical weapons are loved by players and game masters alike, yet there is almost none to choose from. There is nothing like a memorable magical weapon to help define a character throughout a campaign, just think about your favorite fictional heroes of fantasy and the weapons that they carry!

You can put yourself at the head of the French Mousqetaires of the Maison du Roi, they who were made famous by Alexandre Dumas, and lead the charge, emulating the Three Musketeers; rally your grenadiers for one last stand; try out new fangled inventions like cannon with three barrels; join the Swedes in their valiant attempts against the rising star of the east, Russia, or be particularly sad and play uplifting marching music when your line of toy soldiers start their main advance (yes, alright, it was me who did that, caused a laugh anyway!). In short, you can let your imagination run wild, while retaining the odd lingering thought that this could all have really happened.....

 

The game is designed to be played on a flat surface at least 3' by 4' in size. This is covered with terrain features such as hills and villages to represent a model battlefield, over which model figures are used as chess pieces. These figures are placed together on card bases, which are the standard playing piece in the game. If you don't yet possess any such figures or terrain, you could use just card counters to start with, replacing them with model later. However, we do urge you to get some models, as the look of the thing is half the fun of wargaming.

 

The only other thing you require are six-sided dice and a ruler and/or tape measure marked in inches. Apologies to those who are now used to using centimetres and millimetres, but there still some old strongholds left in England where we refuse to do likewise!

Many people are fascinated by alien cultures but for some it becomes an obsession and for a few, exceptional people they become a part of the culture that fascinates them. Accepted in a way that most never could be.

Caught between their own people and their obsession, the Alienist is a bridge between disparate cultures separated by light years, psychology and even biology.

Xenophiles are those who are truly in love with the alien and wish to become a part of it. They might be scouts or soldiers who have ‘gone native’ while stationed in alien dominated space or they may simply have become enchanted with the aliens through the image that they have in the media, seeing them as the embodiment of a concept or as something in their own species that has been lost or diminished. In extreme cases a Xenophile may be suffering from a mental illness, believing that they truly are a member of this alien culture that has become trapped in a human body. They seek to soothe their craving for belonging by finding a new home in an alien culture.

Xenoethnologists are scientists who specifically study the cultures of alien species. Rather than the dry, biological facts or a broad study of intelligent beings as a whole, they zero in on an alien culture and study it intensively, living amongst it and learning to translate meaning between that species and their own. The build bridges between different species and cultures that sometimes don’t even share base biology or senses, let alone concepts.

Tourists Tourists are fascinated by alien cultures in a more general sense. They want to experience as many of these cultures and viewpoints as they can, to travel far and wide seeking novel experiences and seeing strange wonders. They wander from port to port, trying to get off the beaten track, away from the well travelled and to lose themselves on alien worlds. Tourists often find themselves in trouble but this adds a frisson of excitement to their travels and and gives those who return to civilisation interesting stories to tell.
