Sometimes my job at White Wolf requires me to dig around in our archives. Mostly I'm looking for a long-lost CD with a particular piece of art or the layout files for an old book, but once in a while I stumble across old contracts, ad copy, and submissions.
A few weeks ago, I ran into this manuscript, in a folder labeled "Paths of Storytelling" and a hand-written note that said "No. Absolutely not. -SW." It looks like something we worked on right around the time of Vampire: The Masquerade Revised. The cover sheet appears to be missing, so I don't know who originally submitted it, or even if it was done by one writer.
Since it's the 20th anniversary of Vampire: The Masquerade, I thought it might be cool to share this strange piece of missing history. I scanned it as best as I could, and we used some old assets from our fiction archive to make a pretty digital version. Enjoy this glimpse into what might have been.

Sometimes RPG rules supplements seem to have as much world setting information as they do game mechanics. While solid world-building is a useful skill, you don't always need four paragraphs of flavor text to tell you swords are cool, magic is power, shadows are scary, and orcs are savage. Sometimes a GM doesn't want to slog through a page of history for every magic weapon. Sometimes all that's needed are a few cool ideas, with just enough information to use them in a game. Sometimes, all you need are bullet points.
#1 With A Bullet Point is a line of very short, cheap PDFs each of which gives the bare bones of a set of related options. It may be five spells, six feats, eight magic weapon special abilities, or any other short set of related rules we can cram into about a page. Short and simple, these PDFs are for GMs and players who know how to integrate new ideas into their campaigns without any hand-holding, and just need fresh ideas and the rules to support them. No in-character fiction setting the game world. No charts and tables. No sidebars of explanations and optional rules. Just one sentence of explanation for the High Concept of the PDF, then bullet points.
The High Concept: These are stupid designs for weapons, really suitable only for a product released on April Fools.
Price: $1.00Presented here are two new Oracle mysteries for use in your Nobis game. To fully utilize this information, you need both Nobis: The City States and the Advanced Player's Guide for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. With some small changes, these mysteries can fit into any campaign world.

- A character creation system with four character archetypes and an open-ended ability system that allows you to completely customize your hero.

The final, illustrated version of these rules will be available June 1. By purchasing this edition, you will get a $1 rebate on that $2 rulebook. By purchasing this game now, you also have the opportunity to give feedback in the game's final stages of development, through the splintered realm blog and message board.

Price: $4.00The first bit of audio that I am putting up is my interview with Kieran Clark and Chris Perkins of Wizards of the Coast. I had a good, 15 minute-long conversation with them about what's going on with D&D currently and what they see happening going in to the future. The best part of the conversation was just that: as we talked, it felt much more like a conversation than it did an interview, and that's just the way I like things.
So, without further ado, I present to you, the audio. As the days go on, expect my other interviews and recordings to surface here on TC. There's some good stuff, I guarantee it.

This free scenario introduces readers to all aspects of gaming in Pulp Egypt, from ancient tombs and superstitious workers to nefarious criminals intent on relieving the heroes of the treasures they recover. As members of an archaeological expedition, the characters explore a long-lost tomb belonging to a charioteer hero of the ancient Battle of Kadesh. After braving the mysteries and dangers within the tomb, they must safely transport artifacts from the excavation site at Sakkara to their warehouse in Cairo, evading greedy laborers, antiquities thieves, and smugglers all intent on stealing their discoveries. This 12-page adventure also includes maps, pre-generated characters, a player hand-out, and a copy of the Any-System Key for easy reference. Check out this free scenario to get a feel for the kinds of adventures you can play in the Pulp Egypt sourcebook available from Griffon Publishing Studio.
Gamers can easily adapt this Any-System Key adventure to their favorite roleplaying game rules. The Any-System Key describes character skills and task difficulties in terms that easily translate into nearly any game system. These terms do not link to any one game engine, but serve as general guidelines to give readers an overall sense how they fit within their own game's stat and difficulty scale. To use this scenario you'll need the copy of the Any-System Key included in this adventure and your favorite roleplaying game system.
